The Chemical Diet Where You Can Lose a Stone

The Chemical Diet has been around for years, but have you ever heard of it? 

Not many people have really. 


James Duncan wrote about this diet and tried it himself. I have now tried it a number of times. It's one of those diets that can come in handy if you need to lose a few pounds before a last minute event that you are going to attend or even if you have booked a last minute holiday deal. 


If you are desperate to lose a stone in a short amount of time, then the Chemical Diet is the ideal way to do it.

The Chemical Diet is for people who need to lose weight before surgery or for anyone that needs to shift weight quickly.  You do the diet for one week every three weeks.  


I have tried this diet and it helped me to lose weight in a short space of time. The only drawback is that you have to stick to the diet food plan religiously. You have to eat just what's on the food plan or do without. No cheating!





The Chemical Diet is a 7 day food plan that you stick to every three weeks. Apparently, from what I have heard from others, you can lose one stone by just sticking to the exact food plan that I have included below. 

Can you believe that it can work? I wasn't sure about it at first, but when I gave it a try, after two days I could see the weight fall away from me.

It truly does work! I tried it and lost nearly a stone in a week. Anyone can do it.

The following link is the food plan that was recommended by James Duncan, where he writes on how he lost a stone doing the Chemical Diet. You can, also, read the comments on his blog on how others have tried the diet and have lost weight.

Below is the food plan for one week. It's the exact same one.

You can swap days around as long as you eat exactly what is shown for that given day. Do not change any meal for something else or you may not lose one stone. Eat exactly what is shown!

Note:

Do not eat anything that is not mentioned on the above meal plan. 


Eat only what is shown above or do without.


No substitutions allowed.


No eating between meals.


No alcohol.


No butter milk or fat.


Drinks = black tea, black coffee, lemon tea,


grapefruit juice squeezed from the actual fruit (you cannot drink it throughout the day, but only as it states on the above menu), tonic, soda or water only throughout the day.


Salad = lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and celery only


DO NOT DIET FOR MORE THAN ONE WEEK AT A TIME. The diet is only meant for one week at a time, so do it for one week then have 2 weeks off.

Update: 24/11/2015

I recommend the Chemical Diet to anyone that can eat the above food plan for just a week. It's easy if you are determined enough to stick to it and it's a bonus when you start to see the weight fall off. It can, also, start you off on a healthy weight loss journey if you use the food plan continuously, but add more vegetables, salad, fruit, cottage cheese and low fat yoghurt to it after the first week. I have done this myself and it does work. You keep on doing the Chemical Diet every third week. Of course, I am not saying it is going to be easy, but after a week on the Chemical Diet you can be certain that you will have at least lost one stone. 


Lately, I have been doing The Chemical Diet every month and it really does the trick and helps you lose a lot of weight quickly. I have managed to keep the weight off too. It's easy once you are in the right frame of mind and you have stuck to the diet for a while. What I normally do is, do the one week Chemical Diet and then carry on eating the same foods on the meal plan but you can add more vegetables to it along with fat free cottage cheese. This works and helps you to lose more pounds in those weeks after you have done the Chemical Diet. 


Is The Chemical Diet Easy to Cope With?


At the beginning, it will be hard. You may get a headache and feel terribly hungry, but if you drink lots of water, then this will get better. Be determined and just think what you will feel and look like once you have lost that one stone.


Can You Swap Certain Food for Something Else?


The answer is no. What you can do is do the same day twice if you don't like something on the menu. For instance, you can repeat Monday two days in a row if you do not like steak or lamb chops. Never swap lamb chops for steak. The idea of the chemical diet is to eat the exact food on the meal plan.


Also, please do not put fruit in your salads. I will repeat what I said above and that is; ONLY EAT WHAT IS ON THE MEAL PLAN ABOVE. DO NOT ADD OTHER FOODS OR HAVE MEALS IN BETWEEN. IF YOU DO, YOU MAY NOT LOSE A STONE IN A WEEK.

  1. Hi thanks for such an good blog... Which fruits are best to eat and which ones should not be eaten. I have been on a VLCD which is shakes and soups but I am bored with it and only have one more stone to go to be at my goal weight. Going to start tomorrow ... this will be a breeze after the VLCD.

    2. Hi Denise, many thanks for your reply. There appears to be a slight difference between the diet on your front page of your blog and the link to the chemical diet. Which is the one I should be doing? I am on day 2 and have been doing the one with toast on the lunch menu for day 2. See day 6 is also different.

    3. Sorry for a late reply. I have amended my list so there is no confusion. I did the diet without eating the toast (day 2), so it won't matter if you have it or not. Also, day 6 I have amended as well so there is no confusion, but you could do it the way I had it before as it wouldn't make much difference with the weight loss.

Hi there, I've started this diet today, hopefully I will get good results I was wondering with the fresh fish daft question can it be tinned fish or fresh if so which fish would you recommend, also would you recommend eating at the same times each day it's a little hard for me as I'm a carer and my times are all over the place, hope that won't be a problem x

    1. I would stick to just fresh fish although I have eaten a tin of tuna in spring water which I was told should be okay for this diet and I still lost weight. Salmon is a good idea to have too. You don't have to eat at the same time each day, as long as you stick to the exact menu.

Day 3 on the diet so far so good, got the shakes before dinner time, think that's my body in shock with no sugar, after dinner feel perfectly fine, just seem to feel more hungry all the time, but trying to control the hunger feeling with water or lemon water, hopefully will see results soon :-)

    1. Try to have meals every four hours and drink lots of water between meals or at least that's what I have been doing. The water helps. After day 3 it should get easier.

  6. I have just started the chemical diet today and im struggling as I thought i could est grapefruit but i cant its terrible . Does anyone know if the diet works if you leave out the grapefruit. ..

    4. It might not suit you. Have you followed the diet exactly as it says on the plan above? If not, then you won't lose weight.

    1. Hi Maria You cannot eat anything between meals during the one week chemical diet. You must only eat what is on the menu for that one week but eat as much as you can in one go where it says eat any amount of fruit. After the one week on the chemical diet, you can then eat the same food on the menu and have snacks like carrots or cucumber. I hope this helps.

  17. How about salad dressing? A little balsamic vinegar? How about stevia? What can you put on your meat before grilling? A plain grilled chicken breast is pretty hard to get down IMHO. Thanks.

    1. No salad dressing allowed but vinegar and lemon is okay. Stevia is okay. You can use herbs on meat before grilling.

    1. On the days you have chicken you are allowed 1 medium sized breast chicken grilled or oven baked. For grilled steak just have 1 regular sized steak of medium size and for the days you have lamb chops you can have 2 regular medium sized chops.

  26. Just finished my first week. Lost 11.2 lbs. Got LOTS more to go so I think I'll do it every other week for awhile. It wasn't hard at all and I wasn't really hungry. I don't eat breakfast until about 10:00 so that helped - I just can't eat too early. I used stevia to sweeten (very sour) grapefruit. I put salt on my tomatoes and mixed herbs on my steak. I found a recipe for a salad dressing with no sugar and almost no oil b/c I could not eat a salad with lemon juice and/or vinegar. I marinated a chicken breast in light balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing for about an hour, drained and grilled and it was fantastic. I drank 2 diet cokes. I substituted a chicken breast for lamb chops. I made these changes in order to make the diet palatable for me. If I hated it and made myself choke the food down I would be very unlikely to repeat it. But it worked. I guess I won't keep losing 11 lbs each week, but I'm going to try! I have an underactive thyroid and have put on a lot of weight in the last 3 years (since diagnosis and medication started) and every other diet I tried did not work. I would start losing but after a few days it's like my metabolism adjusted and the losing would stop. This one worked. Thank you God!!! (and Denise)

    1. Yes you can add the juice of fresh lemons to your water or tonic. Use slimline tonic water if you can. Bananas and grapes are okay to have and you can have as many as you want when it is time to have fruit. Good luck.

    1. Hi you can leave the lamb out, but it cannot be replaced when you are doing the one week chemical diet every three weeks (above meal plan). The only thing I can suggest is that you leave that day out where lamb has to be eaten and repeat another meal plan day again as this can be done. Also, you must only do the above meal plan for one week every three weeks. If you are doing the above plan after 2 weeks, then it is okay to replace it with either steak or chicken or fish or any other healthy food. I hope this helps.

    1. You can certainly try it out, but I am not sure if it will help you lose a stone. What you can do if you don't want to eat meat, is repeat a meal plan day. For example, just do day 1 or day 4 again as these days have eggs at dinner time. If you are on day 7 you should not replace the steak with eggs, but as I have said, try it and see what happens. It could ruin your chances of losing a stone. The meal plan for the Chemical Diet is supposed to be used exactly as it is above if you want to lose a stone. Hope this helps.

  46. Did this diet for 6 days and lost 8.5lbs, amazing. The only thing I did which wasn't on the plan was add salt to some of the meals, but I'm more than happy with result. It wasn't easy, felt hungry in the evenings and had strange feelings in my stomach, but certainly worth doing. Will do it again.....

    1. You are only supposed to do the Chemical Diet for 7 days. You can try it for 2 weeks, if you want, but be warned, it is not something that should be done for more than 7 days.

    I never have time for breakfast in the morning, work full time etc.
    Is it possible to eat the same foods on the diet plan, but eat the lunch and breakfast items together at lunch time? Or to eat the same items but spread over lunch time and the afternoon?

    1. Hi you cannot replace the grapefruit. I suggest you just leave it out of the diet. You can buy an egg poacher on amazon or eBay or look in your local supermarket. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  59. I am on day 4 of the diet and have stuck to it to the letter and haven't shifted any weight at all. I do have a glass of grapefruit juice with my breakfast each morning and had 3 lamb chops with celery last night instead of two but they were pretty small. I don't like cucumber so have been cutting this out and have been using spinach leaves instead of iceberg lettuce. Would this be effecting the results plus I am working out?

  60. I am on day 4 and haven't lost any weight at all. I have been using spinach instead of iceberg lettuce and I have a glass of grapefruit juice each morning with my breakfast. I drink around 3 litres of water per day and have had a couple of cups of peppermint tea. Plus I am exercised on day 2, 3 and will again today?

  61. You cannot replace lettuce with spinach because spinach is not on the food plan. Anything eaten other than what is on the plan will ruin the diet. Peppermint tea should be fine but just in case cut it out for one day and see if you lose weight. Also grapefruit juice must be squeezed from 1 fresh grapefruit. Hope this helps.

  62. SO can you still eat the grapefruit that is on the plan if you still have some as juice. I have been using bottle grapefruit juice - not from concentrate.

    1. You can only have the grapefruit where it states on the plan when to have it and how much to have ie 1 grapefruit. It will be okay to squeeze the juice from it instead if you wish. Some bottles of grapefruit juice have far too many sugars in it. Drinking it will ruin your chances of losing a lot of weight.

  65. I did this last week and lost 13lb ... I carried it on through to a second week and have lost nothing more .. Do you know why !!! Still 5lb to shift before next week ..
    Great eating plan though pretty easy to stick too

    1. That's great! But you can only do the Chemical diet once every 3 weeks and that is why you probably couldn't lose anymore weight. Try it again 3 weeks later.

    1. That's great news! Eat berries, apples, tangerines and pears on fruit days to combat constipation. Also, drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water per day. You can also try drinking a herbal tea called Oolong tea. This tea can help with constipation and feeling hungry throughout the day by drinking at least 3 to 4 cups per day.

    Thanks for sharing you experience and support. I'm going to start tomorrow.
    I'd like to know if you have any advice for sticking to the diet. I mean, tips related to mindset. Mind is the key for losing weight and getting good results but I'm weak so I'd like to have your thoughts about it. Id like not only give this diet a try but to get rid of 10lb for once and for all.

    1. You will need plenty of willpower. For instance, I usually like to keep my mind focused by meditating five minutes three times per day during that week I am dieting. It helps me to keep on track when I meditate. All you have to do is close your eyes and breathe in and out, and in your mind's eye believe that you have already lost weight. See yourself in an outfit that didn't fit you before. It works for me. The other thing is drink Oolong tea. It can really help stop you from feeling hungry. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    I am now on day 4. I have weighed myself each day and I have been loosing 2lbs a day until this morning I lost nothing at all? I have followed this to the T. Has anyone else experienced the same no weight loss nearly half way through? I was a little miffed this morning. Will I keep loosing or is this my lot? I am keeping going to the 7 days though

    1. It's normal for the weight loss to slow later in the week. Just stick to the food plan exactly and you will continue to lose more by the end of it. Good luck.

    2. Thank you Denise. Good to hear! I have had a great experience with this and the only day I was hungry was the first day. I started on the Saturday so my last day would be a Friday and therefore let me have a break this weekend as I know if I started on Monday I would be more likely to give in if I finished the diet on the Sunday. Plus it's so easy due to working 8/5 a day that prep is easy due to minimal food. Also being able to swap the lunch and dinner has a great advantage so I don't have to stink the office out with eggs on a Friday :) lol. Thank you once again for your encouragement :)

    4. Thanks Denise. I now know why I didn't loose any yesterday as it is the "time of the month". I do wonder though if I can take paracetamol or aspirin for the usual pains? If I take anything will it slow down or stop my progress? If yes then is there anything else I can take?

    5. It won't matter especially if you are on time of the month. Taking some pain relief for it shouldn't make it any worse when dieting.

  78. 1st time round only did 3 days but lost half a stone. It's a great quick fix. This time I'm on day 3 lost half again but determined to do the full week. I have the odd cheat such as a drop of milk in my tea here and there and add chilli or fresh herbs to my salads and tomatoes. So far so good. I get hungry on some days but hey its helping shrink my stomach. Can't be slim and eat whatever you want whenever you want and as much as two people would eat. It's only a week and it works wonders for me . Been struggling with weight loss for last few years and thus is working . At last. Thank you!

  79. Hello. I'm starting this diet as of Friday 10th, I have a question. I understand you have to stick to the diet and gym is allowed - however - would I be allowed to use normal protein shakes or alternatively use protein shakes made specifically for weight loss with water? Add this onto going to the gym for 1 hour a day for the week of course.

    1. You could try it and see if it helps, but the diet pacifically says that you should follow it exactly as it says and that means not adding anything to it or changing it in any way. Adding the shakes may hinder your weight loss or it could help you, but I am guessing that this has never been tried before with the Chemical Diet.   80. I stuck to this diet for a whole week and lost one stone. I then carried on eating healthily and lost more weight. I then did another week on the chemical diet and lost 12 lbs. It truly works! I encourage everyone to do this diet as I found it so easy as I was determined!

    1. It has to be toasted. There is a difference in chemicals that you consume when eating bread toasted and eating it just as bread. For the diet to work you must have toast like it says on the menu. Hope this helps.

  87. I did this last week and stuck to it all week no cheats!! Weighed myself on Monday and I'd lost in total 12lb. So I've had two day break and re-starting again today!!! I left out the avocados didn't want to risk it! I find bananas are good as they fill you.
